"Libraries are expressions of social generosity"
~ Lionel Shriver, Author
NZ Book Month was celebrated with a “March Into NZ Book Month” theme. Friday night storytelling events were presented involving the NZ Army, NZ Police, Air Training Corps and the NZ Fire Service. Everyone benefitted from these events with all parties having the opportunity to showcase their careers but also promoting libraries and reading as being cool too! The audiences, made up of parents and children, really enjoyed each Friday night event which included storytelling, marching sessions, climbing on a fire engine, a lesson on fire apparatus and meeting a working police dog.
Question and answer sessions often had to be curbed as the children (and parents) were quite keen. A sausage sizzle held afterwards proved a popular idea, as well as helping with local fundraising efforts. In all, it was a very successful month of events, no doubt to be repeated again in the future!
