Public Libraries join forces with Duffy Books in Homes

Public Libraries of New Zealand have joined forces with Duffy Books in Homes to offer Duffy kids all around New Zealand a free book reward when they use their Public Library.

Duffy Books in Homes is a charitable trust which has, for over fifteen years, been providing free books three times a year, to over 95,000 New Zealand children in lower-decile schools. Their vision is to break the cycle of booklessness in New Zealand by inspiring a love of books in Duffy children so they become adults who inspire a love of reading in others.

Celebrating Te Wiki o te reo Māori at the Library  is always an exciting time with lots of activities and performances to tempt everyone.

2011 Rugby World Cup Volunteers

Recruitment opens on July 14 for 5,000+ volunteers to be the face of New Zealand in the 2011 Ruby World Cup.

With over 60,000 international visitors for the event, Rugby New Zealand is seeking volunteers who will perform a variety of roles from the backrooms of stadia assisting with catering, sports presentation and ceremonies to helping visitors at hotels, Fan Zones and at transport hubs.

A number of New Zealand public libraries will be supporting the recruitment process by facilitating online registrations and providing further information.

Tauranga Library Books Remain Free

Tauranga City Councillors have decided not to introduce new charges on the borrowing of adult books from public libraries - instead 'Top Title' loan prices will go up $1.
This means 'Top Title' books will go from $2 to $3 and DVDs from $3 to $4.

The Rural Public Library

What characterises the Public Library in rural New Zealand?

In general, the rural Public Library is housed in a small building, situated in a small urban centre.  Even though its immediate location can be small, it often serves a larger ‘hidden’ population spread over an enormous geographic area.  This population can be characterized as conservative and often resistant to change.  In addition, the percentage of rates paid in rural New Zealand is extremely high given the low population figure and the relative value of the land they occupy.

Save Our Library: Public Meeting

A public meeting will be held on Thursday 1 April, 12.30pm-1.30pm at Elizabeth Street Community Centre (Opposite the Tauranga Yoga Centre) Tauranga.
