Bay of Plenty Regional Update

The APLM Bay of Plenty region recently split from the Waikato region and now consists of eight members.  Previously, the Waikato/Bay of Plenty region consisted of 16 members covering the breadth of the North Island.  This geographical split now facilitates better communication between members.

Their first regional update showcases new commissioned works, book month and other great community events.

Art has been a big focus at the Kawerau District Library and Museum over the last year.

NZ Book Month was celebrated with a “March Into NZ Book Month” theme.  Friday night storytelling events were presented involving the NZ Army, NZ Police, Air Training Corps and the NZ Fire Service.

Libraries in the Bay of Plenty  region are actively looking for opportunities to work together or assist each other in different ways.

Whakatāne has seen an increase in Māori schools and groups visiting the library.  There’s no doubt that this is due to the library’s support and promotion of Māori collections and related events.
