About

What we do

Public Libraries of New Zealand is the website of the Association of Public Library Managers Inc (APLM).

The APLM was set up in 2007 to represent the interests of New Zealand’s public libraries.  All our members are public library managers – we are the people who plan, develop and co-ordinate services at New Zealand’s public libraries.

Role and value of public libraries

Public libraries are local centres of information, making all kinds of knowledge and information easily available to users.

Public libraries help promote literacy and the pure enjoyment of reading. They are also places where people can go to get information, whether it’s for leisure, for study or for work.
